Access and Service Charges for 08 Numbers

How it works now Since 1 July 2015, when new rules were applied there is now a legal requirement to declare call charges, means now the cost of calling service numbers is now made up of two parts.

The Access Charge:
This part of the call charge goes to your phone company, charged as pence per minute.

The Service Charge:
This is the rest of the call charge, charged as a pence per minute, sometimes with a connection charge too.

The business your calling decides this, and must tell you how much it is, this is effectively set by the number they choose to use. So if your particular phone company charges you 45p per minute for calls to service numbers - that is their access charge (that is what EE charge).

And let’s say the service charge for a particular number you want to call is 7p per minute. In our case, you will see information like this: 08444 939 444 “Calls cost 7p per minute plus your phone company's access charge.”
