ISDN circuit with DDI Range

The phone line which people have in their home is an analogue line. Any voice or sound is picked up by your telephone mouthpiece and then sent down the phone line as an analogue wave form. To transmit voice or data, however, it is far more efficient, and simpler to keep it in its original digital state.

An ISDN line is a digital line that does exactly that. An ISDN circuit is usually is supplied with one main number and a consecutive ddi range or sub numbers that follows on from the main lead number, so something like 0161 282 4200 & then then ddi range is 0161 282 4201 through to 0161 282 4209.

Caller ID
Analogue ISDN & ISDN2e lines all supports Caller ID, i.e. the delivery of the calling telephone number.

Multiple ISDN Lines & DDI
Commonly, you might have multiple ISDN lines (two channels each) feeding a PBX (switchboard/phonekit). In this case, you want to have your phone numbers deliverable across all of the lines, rather than tied to just one line, so you would require a ddi range.

The ddi (sometimes known as direct dial numbers) numbers are all linked to the ISDN lines but can be identified by your phone equipment separately so it is possible to be able to configure your set up to route calls to departments or to individuals.

The most basic rate ISDN line provides two 'channels', (known as ISDN2) each of which can be used for separate calls, thus equivalent to having two regular lines carrying voice calls. Multiples of ISDN2 circuits can be provide together, this is known as ISDN2e or ISDN2 System. Larger businesses may require more lines so would order a ISDN30 circuit which can provide up to thirty 'channels' with a minimum of eight. All our ISDN circuits are from our tier1 carriers so are robust reliable circuits which carry calls at the highest quality possible here in the UK.
