UK Business should test again their continuity plans, disaster recovery planning was evidently severely lacking last week, when the snow and cold hit us all many businesses suffered.
Following the ‘Beast from the East’ snow storm cold weather carnage last month a recent research project from Databarracks reveals that only half of UK organisations were confident that their business continuity plans were up-to-date. Only 51% said their Disaster Recovery plan was up-to-date and had been tested within the last year.
Tynan O’Hara our sales director said ‘the recent events which saw snow hit most of the UK caused terrible problems especially in most city suburban areas for those commuting into work. With complete D.R planning, some of our team could work from home, answering clients calls, almost as they would in the office, companies need to be able to be more flexible.”
Peter Groucutt, Managing Director of Databarracks stated recently “Storm Emma brought huge disruptions to the UK’s transport network….. impacting how people were able to commute…..because of this a lot of organisations would have been forced to invoke their BC plans to remain operational. “Business continuity is no longer a luxury insurance policy; it’s absolutely essential for all businesses no matter their size and must be updated and tested on a regular basis.”
Tynan reflects on the 08UK Manchester office. “If the snow storm had got any worse here in the north west many would not have been able to make it physically in to work. Indeed some our operations team were struggling to get to our offices, we were fine because we have cloud. It is crucial for organisations without Disaster Recovery planning or Business Continuity planning to now plan and implement or they will be left exposed to experience severe disruptions.”
